The Alabama Historical Commission owns, has custody of, or operates a variety of historical properties that could be used as sites for field trips or special projects for Alabama students. Not all the properties have staff on hand, but all of those properties with staff have tours and programs available for visiting students. The type of program varies by site. Special events are scheduled during the year at Ft. Toulouse, Ft. Mims, Cahawba, and Ft. Morgan. A calendar of events may be requested from the Alabama Historical Commission or from a specific property. Cahawba and Ft. Toulouse have pre-visit packages for teachers. Ft. Morgan also has advance visit material. All of the site managers will make visits to schools when their schedules allow. The AHC would be delighted for schools to make up their own events and to use the sites as bases. Properties with the strongest programs for students are starred (*).
